It’s Mario time! And today we’re throwing an awesome Super Mario birthday party with Mario, Luigi and the rest of the gang.
Whether you played the Super Mario Bros games in the 80s, 90s or you’re still playing them now, we guarantee you’ll love this party theme. It works brilliantly as a cute party theme for kids or even a nostalgic party theme for grown-ups!
From tableware and decorations to invites and party food, our Super Mario party ideas have got every aspect of your party covered. Power up and take a look!
Planning your Super Mario birthday party
Send out themed invitations
No Mario-themed party would be complete without a nod to his famous catchphrase “It’s a-me, Mario!” and these Super Mario invites are super cute!
Plus, every great party should start with themed invitations to let your guests know what’s in store. We’d recommend giving them out about six weeks before your party to make sure your guests save the date (and if you want to make your Mario party fancy dress, it’ll give them time to pick out a costume!)
Choose your tableware
Next up is tableware – the foundation of every party. We chose this bright and colourful Super Mario partyware that features all the most iconic characters from the game, then accessorised with brightly coloured tablecloths and cutlery.
When you’re picking a tablecloth to match your themed partyware, we’d recommend choosing one of the colours that feature on the plates. In this case we chose lime green for the tablecloth and red for the cutlery – and they really make the rest of the colours stand out!
Get crafty with decorations
For our Super Mario birthday party we mixed and matched homemade decorations with official decorations like these that matched our tableware.
Take these cute stars – they’re an unforgettable part of the Mario games and they’re so easy to make! Just take a yellow star balloon like this and cut two long strips of black paper and stick them on.
As for Super Mario party food, add a little nod to Mario’s famous moustache with cute moustache sugar decorations and moustache cake picks.
It’s a super easy way to keep your party food on theme and your guests will love it!
As for party games, why not dust off your old Nintendo (if you still have it) and play some classic Mario video games?! You could have fun reliving your childhood or introduce Mario to a whole new generation!
And if you fancy being a bit more creative, you could play this Mario version of “pin the tail on the donkey” or even create a real-life version of one of the games – take a look at our Super Mario party game ideas on Pinterest for inspiration.
Finally, every good host should send their guests home with a party bag full of goodies!
As well as sweet treats, we’d recommend filling your party bags with lots of Mario-themed toys like pencils, mushroom-shaped rubbers, bracelets and stickers.
