There’s no doubt about it, minion fever is still in full-swing! So today we’re dedicating a whole party to our favourite yellow creatures with our fabulous collection of minion party ideas!
It’s such an easy party theme to create (anything yellow, blue or orange goes) and we’ve mixed and matched our official minion party supplies with a few crafty bits to give the party a more personal touch.
Read on to browse all the photos from our Despicable Me party and if there’s one thing we know for sure – anyone who loves minions will LOVE this party theme!
Setting up your minion party
As far as setting up your party goes, the busier the better!
They’re not called an army of minions for nothing so don’t be afraid to go crazy decking out the room with life-sized ballons, decorations and anything that’s got a minion on it.
Official Despicable Me themed tableware gives you a great foundation to start building up your minion party and we started by laying the table and filling out with confetti, party blowouts, cardboard cut-outs and balloons.
Filling a few yellow buckets with shredded blue paper makes a nice centrepiece and gives your table this cool symmetrical look. They also guide the eye up to the highlight of the party – the minion birthday cake!
Minion party food ideas
Next up in our collection of minion party ideas is a minion birthday cake!
We got this fabulous creation from our friends at Richard’s Cakes in Manchester and photos really don’t do it justice! A themed cake makes a fantastic centrepiece and can really help to pull the whole theme together. We chose this one that’s about 30cm tall so it looks like an adorable little minion is sat at the head of the table. It’s so cute it almost seems a shame to eat it!!
As for party food, try and stick to the colours blue, yellow and orange as much as possible. And since minions have a crazy obsession with bananas, anything banana-flavoured is a must!
Minion cupcakes are another adorable addition to your Despicable Me party food. We’re lucky enough to be down the road from a great bakery who makes them but if you’re not, you can make some minion cupcakes yourself using a simple vanilla cupcake recipe and some coloured royal icing. Yum!
Minion-themed party crafts
We’ve been browsing Pinterest for minion party ideas lately and it does seem like you can turn absolutely anything into a minion.
These are two bottles of lemonade, covered in yellow and blue tissue paper with the eyes and nose stuck on (similar to the ones we used to make a minion pumpkin). Use them to keep your party food on theme or fill old coke bottles with a little bit of water to make some themed balloon weights!
And then of course, there’s our banana minions!
We’ve got a whole blog post dedicated to these little beauties and they’re SO CUTE we almost don’t want to eat them. But they’re a really healthy party snack so we know we should!

Make a homemade minion piñata
Next up is party activities and we made this life-sized minion piñata to bring some real fun to the party!
Read our full minion piñata blog post for step-by-step photos of how to make it and our free printable minion outfit.
And if you’ve never played piñata before, we’ve also got a handy piñata guide that explains the rules.
In a few easy steps she’ll show you exactly how to turn yourself into one of the mischievous little creatures from Despicable Me using a few simple products – and a cute minion outfit and goggles, of course!
Now you’ve got loads of Despicable party ideas, all that’s left is to stick the banana song on full blast and get partying! We hope you’ve enjoyed our minion party as much as we have and if you’re throwing your own, don’t forget to send a few photos our way!
