To celebrate the arrival of our Harry Potter party supplies, we’re throwing the ultimate Harry Potter party!
Perfect for a birthday party or Halloween party theme, read on for all the decorating ideas, party food ideas and party games you need for the ultimate wizarding get-together!
Send Hogwarts acceptance letters as invitations
Make your Harry Potter birthday party special from the get-go by making your party invitations look like Hogwarts acceptance letters. Simply print out your letters/invitations and stain them with teabags to make them look like parchment. Put each one in an envelope and seal it with some red play dough (stuck on with glue) to make it look like a wax seal.
Recreate the entrance to platform 9 3/4
When your guests arrive, make sure they know they’re entering the magical world of Harry Potter by recreating the entrance to 9 3/4. The easiest way to do this is with a brick wall scene setter like this. Cut it in half, then stick it over your doorway for your guests to run through onto the platform!
Have your own sorting ceremony
Once your guests have ‘arrived at Hogwarts’, start your Harry Potter party with a sorting ceremony! Place a chair at the front of the room and nominate one grown-up to be the voice of the sorting hat. One by one, sit each child on the chair wearing the sorting hat while the grown-up sorts them into Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Got a particularly mischievous child at the party? Sort them into Slytherin before the hat even touches their head!
Serve your food on Hogwarts themed plates
We’re excited to say our range of Harry Potter party supplies has finally arrived and every muggle, young or old, will love it! Our Hogwarts house themed plates, cups and napkins are the perfect way to serve your party food and you could lay a wand and a pair of Harry Potter glasses next to each place setting to help your guests get into character!
Serve Harry Potter-themed party food
No visit to Hogsmeade would be complete without butterbeer – the most delicious, warming drink you could ever taste. So why not try making your own? We found a great kid-friendly recipe here and once finished, serve it in plastic mugs for an authentic HP look!
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans
Next up is Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. The flavours range from the delicious to the truly disgusting (think marshmallows, tutti-frutti, grass and earwax!) and you can easily recreate them with jellybeans!
Chocolate coins (from Gringott’s bank!)
Pretend you’ve just paid a visit to your vault at Gringott’s bank by serving chocolate coins like these.
Make Ferrero Rocher golden snitches
How about making Ferrero Rocher golden snitches as a nod to the wizarding world’s favourite sport, quidditch? They’re really easy to make – simply download our free printable wings and stick them underneath the Ferrero Rocher sticker on each one. And voilà – they’re done!

Next up in our Harry Potter party ideas is fancy dress! Make sure it’s clear on your invitations that fancy dress is strongly encouraged, then getting planning your costumes. There are so many characters to choose from – Harry, Ron, Hermione, Voldemort, the Death Eaters… The list goes on. Take a look at our full range of Harry Potter fancy dress for inspiration.

Play Harry Potter party games
Once your Harry Potter party is in full swing, make sure you’ve got some fun party games to keep your little witches and wizards entertained. Here are some of our favourite Harry Potter themed games:
‘Have you seen this wizard?’ photo booth
Make a cardboard photobooth so that your guests can pose as Sirius Black – the escaped prisoner from Azkaban. Get them to do their most terrifying face as they pose for the camera!
Hogwarts photo booth
How about setting up a Hogwarts themed photo booth with a pack of our Harry Potter photo props? Grab a tie for your favourite Hogwarts’ house and strike a pose!
Hold a costume competition
There’s bound to be some impressive costumes at your Harry Potter party, so hold a costume competition and give out prizes for the best ones. Think best costume, most original costume, scariest costume. Let your guests know there’ll be prizes in advance so they make an extra special effort!
Play quidditch pong
If your guests are grown-ups, how about turning an ordinary game of beer pong into quidditch pong? Simply fashion some quidditch hoops out of pipe cleaners and let the games begin!
Harry Potter ‘who am I?’
Nominate one person to think of a Harry Potter character and the rest of the group can ask 20 questions to try and figure out who it is. Whoever gets it right goes next.
