How to Make a Bauble Wreath

Homemade Christmas decorations are IN and we’ve got a great little Christmas DIY idea for you today – a homemade bauble wreath.

Now, you may have seen these in the shops but we’ll let you in on a little secret – they’re really easy to make at home. So easy, in fact, that it’s well worth making your own at home to save a little bit of money to spend on extra presents or treats! We’ve got loads of other Christmas crafts to explore, allowing you to deck the halls without paying through the nose!

What you need:

  • A polystyrene ring from your local craft shop
  • Large value pack of baubles in a variety of sizes and colours
  • Silver glitter
  • PVA glue (use superglue or a glue gun for extra strength)

Bauble Wreath 1

Before you start, remove the string from your baubles and throw it away. Then coat the whole polystyrene ring in PVA glue, cover it with silver glitter and leave it to dry. This will make sure that any part of the polystyrene ring that is showing through the baubles looks pretty and Christmassy instead of plain and white.

Then it’s time to start putting your baubles on. You’ll find this easiest to do by putting them on layer by layer (starting on the outer side of the ring), leaving each layer to dry, and then attaching more baubles.

The baubles that are directly touching the polystyrene ring can be easily pinned on. Simply put the pin through the part of the bauble where the string would normally be threaded through.

Bauble Wreath 2

Once you’ve got a few basic layers, start sticking more baubles on with glue to fill in the gaps. The size and colour of your baubles is completely up to you so play it by ear to find out what looks good.

Then once you’re happy that all the gaps have been filled in and your wreath looks good, leave it to dry and then hang it on your front door!
