May the Fourth Be With You Party Ideas

It’s May the Fourth and time to embrace your inner Star Wars geek! We love how 4th May has been unofficially adopted as Star Wars Day and we can’t wait to bring you loads of awesome party ideas to celebrate one of our favourite days of the year.

Whether you’re celebrating a child’s birthday around that time or you’re just a big kid who loves Star Wars, keep reading for loads of unique party ideas for a completely unforgettable May the Fourth party.

Dress your table

There’s just so much you can do to make your table look cool. Laying the table with some official Star Wars party supplies makes a great start that you can build on with loads of unique party ideas, such as these plain red napkins rolled up like lightsabers!

Roll each napkin up and wrap one of our free printable lightsaber napkin wraps around it. And remember – red lightsabers for the Sith and blue, green, yellow or purple for the Jedi!

… and your chairs

Chairs are often forgotten about at parties but they’re a great decorating opportunity. For Star Wars you could turn each chair into a different character like this Darth Vader one that we put together with a black chair cover, a black tablecloth for the cape and a cardboard Darth Vader mask.

Decorations that are out of this world

Decorations can make or break a party and you can really go to town with Star Wars. These Star Wars helium balloons make a really easy decorating option but if you want to be a bit more extravagant a life-size R2D2 balloon like this will really bring something special to the party!

You could even go the whole hog and decorate the room with life-size cutouts of Darth Vader, Yoda and the Droids C3PO and R2D2. You could even put them at the front door to greet your guests (and provide an unmissable photo opportunity!)

If you’ve got time, why not try out a couple of Star Wars party crafts too? Take a plain white lantern like this and turn it into a Death Star with our free printables. You’ll be amazed how realistic it looks (just look at ours below to see for yourself!) and it’ll also be an amazing centrepiece for your party.

Pun-tastic party food

We love matching party food to the overall theme of the party. Star Wars food puns are huge on the internet and we’ve picked out a couple of our favourites to make these punny Star Wars food labels that are completely free to download. Café au Leia is our favourite but there are loads more to choose from.

We’d recommend serving everything in bowls and platters that match your decorations, such as red and green serving platters that pick out the less dominant colours in your themed tablecloth.

An awesome cake, you must have

No birthday is complete without the cake and we were lucky enough to have Richard’s Cakes in Manchester make this one for us. Just check out the detail! But if you haven’t got the time to whip up a masterpiece like this yourself, there are lots of easy cheats.

For example, there’s nothing wrong with simply jazzing up a shop-bought cake. Things like these red magic sprinkles and sparkler candles in the shape of your child’s age would quickly transform an ordinary cake into something special.

Don’t forget the party bags

Party bags are an essential part of any kids party and there are loads of cool toys and accessories that you can fill them with. (You could even scatter your party favours across the table).
